A TIG torch is built from small parts that wear out or need changing to suit the job. The ceramic cap, or nozzle, directs shielding gas over the weld and is sized to the tungsten and the joint. The collet grips the tungsten electrode, and the collet body holds it in the torch head and feeds gas to the nozzle, so both must match the electrode diameter. Long and short back caps seal the rear of the torch and hold the tungsten in place. Keeping spares in stock avoids downtime when a cup cracks.

Paragweld supplies spares for four torch types. WP 18 parts include ceramic caps in 6, 8 and 10 mm, collets and collet bodies from 1.6 to 4.0 mm, and torch bodies in standard, flexible and pencil styles. The WP 26 and WCD 400 ranges cover 1.6, 2.0 and 2.4 mm collets. For the WCD 600 we list the torch head, gas lens, conductor adaptor and three-hose cable assemblies in 4 m and 8 m lengths.

frequently asked questions (FAQ)

The collet and collet body must match the diameter of the tungsten electrode, so a 2.4 mm tungsten needs a 2.4 mm collet and collet body. For WP 18 torches we list sizes from 1.6 mm to 4.0 mm, and for WP 26 and WCD 400 torches 1.6, 2.0 and 2.4 mm. A wrong size grips the tungsten poorly, which can cause overheating and an unstable arc.
Replace the ceramic cap when it is cracked, chipped at the tip or badly coated with spatter. A damaged nozzle disturbs the gas flow, which can let air into the weld and cause porosity or a discoloured bead. Smaller sizes such as 6 mm suit tight joints and lower currents, while 8 and 10 mm caps give wider gas coverage for larger welds.
A gas lens takes the place of the standard collet body and uses a fine mesh screen to smooth the shielding gas into a steady, even stream. This gives better coverage of the weld pool and lets the tungsten stick out further, which helps on corners and joints that are hard to reach. It is listed as a spare for our WCD 600 torch.
WP 18 and WP 26 are widely used torch patterns, and parts made to the same pattern are generally interchangeable between brands. Thread size, length and fit can still vary, so check before you order in bulk. The simplest way is to send our team your torch model or a photo of the old part and we will confirm the match.
Both close the back of the torch and press the collet onto the tungsten. A long cap takes a full-length tungsten, so you can weld longer before regrinding or replacing it. A short cap uses a shorter tungsten and makes the torch more compact for tight corners and pipe work. We list both types for WP 18, WP 26, WCD 400 and WCD 600 torches.
