Special Purpose Machinery

Paragweld Special Purpose Machinery

Special purpose machinery is the equipment that works around the welding power source and does the moving: turning the job, carrying the torch along a seam or holding the welding head in position. In manual welding the welder has to keep travel speed and torch angle steady by hand. Mechanising those movements gives repeatable welds, less rework and less operator fatigue on long or repetitive joints, from tanks and pressure vessels to high-volume parts such as scaffolding components.

Paragweld's range includes the welding rotator, with payload capacities from 2 MT to 60 MT, and the column and boom manipulator, with strokes from 1 m to 4 m for circumferential and longitudinal seams. There are three carriages: the track-based Universal Carriage for welding and plasma cutting, the Flexible Welding Carriage for MIG/MAG seams on curved or irregular surfaces, and the compact Magnetic Welding Carriage. For scaffolding makers there are dedicated machines for blade and cap lock welding and for ledger systems.

frequently asked questions (FAQ)

A welding rotator turns a cylindrical job, such as a tank or pipe, under a fixed welding head. Paragweld rotators use metallic rollers bonded with polyurethane and a worm gear reducer for high torque and low backlash. A column and boom does the opposite job: it carries the welding head and positions it over the joint with motorised vertical and horizontal movement. For circumferential seams on vessels the two are often used together.
Start with the heaviest job you will turn, then allow for its diameter and length. Paragweld rotators are available with payload capacities from 2 MT to 60 MT, and the rollers have quick, accurate centring adjustment to suit different diameters. They can be used with SAW, TIG, MIG and ARC welding. Share the weight and dimensions of your job with our team and we will recommend a suitable capacity.
The Universal Carriage runs on a track, is non-magnetic and can be used for both welding and plasma cutting, with an XY slide for torch angle and DC motor speed control. The Flexible Welding Carriage follows linear seams on tanks, curved beams and irregular structures with MIG/MAG welding, and offers programmable weaving and a hand pendant. The Magnetic Welding Carriage is compact and light, for welding in narrow spaces.
Yes. The Paragweld column and boom can be mounted on a travel car to move along the job, or on a heavy-duty table with a bearing so that it can rotate. Stroke ranges from 1 m to 4 m, and the manipulator has an anti-fall device for safety. It suits both circumferential and longitudinal welding, from small tubes to large tanks.
Special purpose machines are designed around one repetitive job. The scaffolding blade cum cap lock welding machine and the special purpose welding machine for scaffolding ledger systems on this page are examples, each built for a particular scaffolding component. If you weld the same part in large numbers, share your drawings and production requirements with our team to discuss whether a dedicated machine is practical.
