Step 1: Plan the Power Supply
Industrial welding machines in the 400-amp class and above run on three-phase 415V supply. Before you pick machines, check these points:
- Sanctioned load: add up the rated input of every welding machine, the compressor for plasma cutting, and lighting and fans. If several machines will run at once, the connection must carry the load without the voltage dropping.
- Separate distribution: give each welding machine its own isolator or MCB and a cable of the right size. A shared or undersized cable heats up and makes the arc unstable.
- Proper earthing: a dedicated earth pit for the welding bay protects operators and the machine electronics.
- Voltage fluctuation: supply in industrial areas can swing. Ask about the input voltage tolerance of any machine you consider, and fit stabilisation where the supply is poor.
Step 2: Match Duty Cycle to Your Shifts
Duty cycle is the share of a ten-minute period that a machine can weld at a given current before it has to rest. A machine rated at 60% at a certain current can hold an arc for six minutes out of ten at that current. At a lower current, it can weld for longer.
Many Indore units supplying axles, chassis parts, brackets and trailer parts to the Pithampur auto cluster run two or three shifts. For them, duty cycle matters more than peak amperage. As a rule, choose a machine whose rated duty cycle at your normal working current is well above your actual arc-on time. The Paragweld MIG 500 Pro is built for continuous production like this, and a water cooling unit keeps torches cool on long runs.
Step 3: Choose the Right Machine for Each Station
Production welding stations
MIG/MAG is the standard choice for mild steel parts in volume, such as brackets, frames, cross-members and trolley or body work. Operators learn it quickly and the beads are consistent.
Structural and repair station
Keep at least one ARC (MMA) inverter for structural jobs, site repairs and thick sections. The Paragweld ARC 400IJ is a practical all-rounder for this work.
Stainless steel station
Food-processing and pharma plants around Indore work mostly with stainless steel: tanks, piping, conveyors and process skids. These need TIG welding for clean, hygienic joints. Keep stainless work in a separate area from carbon steel so grinding dust does not contaminate it. The TIG welder series covers this work.
Cutting station
An air plasma cutter fed with clean, dry compressed air handles most cutting and bevelling. Fit a moisture separator, because wet air is the main reason nozzles and electrodes wear out early.
Equipment for Your Indore Welding Bay
Most workshops fit out a bay from these Paragweld product lines:
Step 4: Pick Electrodes and Wire to Suit the Work
- MIG wire: copper-coated mild steel solid wire of the ER70S-6 type, with CO₂ or an argon-CO₂ mix, covers most carbon steel work. Match the wire diameter to the thickness and current, and keep spools covered so they do not rust.
- Electrodes: general-purpose rutile electrodes suit light fabrication. Low-hydrogen basic electrodes are used for thick, load-bearing and crack-prone joints. Keep them dry, ideally in a baking oven.
- Stainless consumables: use a filler that matches the grade of the base metal, such as 308L or 316L, with pure argon for TIG.
Paragweld supplies welding wire and electrodes as well as machines, so one enquiry can cover the whole bay.
Step 5: Set a Simple Maintenance Routine
- Daily: check cables and earth clamps for damage, clean MIG nozzles and contact tips, and drain the air filter on the plasma compressor.
- Weekly: inspect wire feed rollers and liners, tighten cable lugs, and check the coolant level on water-cooled torches.
- Monthly: isolate the power, then blow the dust out of each machine with dry compressed air. Dust and metal particles do the most damage to inverter electronics, especially in shops that do a lot of grinding.
- Always: keep machines off wet floors and leave space around the cooling fans for air to flow.
