Manual Metal Arc Welding, also know as Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Flux Shielded Arc Welding or informally as stick welding, is a manual arc welding process that uses a consumable electrode coted in flux to lay the weld. An electrode current, in the form of either AC or DC from a welding power supply, is used to from an electric arc between the electrode and the metal to be joined.

Because of versatility of process and simplicity of its equipments and operation, shielded metal arc welding is one of the worlds most popular welding processes. The process is used primarily to weld and steels (including stainless steel) but Aluminium, Nickel and Copper Alloys can also be welded with this method.

The ARC 400G is a 400 A class stick (MMA) welding machine in the Parag Weld ARC Welder Series. It sits between the 300 A models, such as the ARC 300G and ARC 300GS, and the larger ARC 630I. It is meant for fabrication work that needs more current than a 300 A machine can provide.
A 400 A class stick welder is typically used for heavier fabrication, structural steel, thicker plate and larger diameter electrodes than a 200 A or 300 A machine can comfortably run. It is common in fabrication shops, maintenance departments and site work where longer runs and heavier sections are routine.
Start with the electrode size and plate thickness you use most. The ARC 300G and ARC 300GS give 20-300 A and take electrodes up to 3.15 mm. The ARC 630I goes up to 630 A with electrodes up to 6.3 mm. The ARC 400G sits in between, for users who need more than 300 A but not a 630 A machine.

Duty cycle is the share of a 10-minute period that a machine can weld at a given current before it needs to cool. For example, 60% means about 6 minutes of welding and 4 minutes of rest at rated output. At lower currents you can weld for longer. Ask our team for the rated duty cycle of the ARC 400G.
Like the other machines in the ARC Welder Series, the ARC 400G is intended for an industrial three-phase supply. Have an electrician install a correctly rated breaker, isolator and earth. Place the machine where air can flow freely around it, keep it dry, and always wear a welding helmet, gloves and protective clothing.
