PW FC 71T-1 is a flux-cored welding wire to AWS E71T-1. It is a tubular wire filled with a titanium-based (rutile) flux and is used with a MIG/MAG power source and shielding gas. The flux forms a slag that supports the weld pool, so the wire can be used in all positions. It is made for mild steel and 490 MPa grade high tensile steel.
Yes. E71T-1 is a gas-shielded flux-cored wire and is normally used with CO2 shielding gas. It is not a self-shielded wire, so it should not be run without gas. Please confirm the gas type and flow rate for your job with our team. When welding outdoors or near open doors, screen the work area from wind, which can blow the gas away and cause porosity.
PW FC 71T-1 is widely used for welding structures in mild steel and 490 MPa grade high tensile steel, such as ships, pressure vessels, mechanical equipment and steel bridges. Its all-position capability and good deposition rate make it useful for long seams and for vertical and overhead joints in heavy fabrication work.
PW FC 71T-1 is available in 1.2 mm and 1.6 mm diameters. Both sizes are supplied on DD 270 mm spools with a net weight of 15 kg per spool. The 1.2 mm size is the usual choice for general fabrication and positional welding, while the 1.6 mm size is used at higher currents on thicker plate where deposition rate matters more.
Any constant-voltage MIG/MAG machine that can feed the chosen diameter will run it. The 1.2 mm size suits the MIG 400 Pro and MIG 400I, which take 0.8 to 1.2 mm wire, and the 1.6 mm size needs the MIG 500 Pro, which takes wire up to 1.6 mm. Use knurled drive rolls and the correct contact tip so the tubular wire is not crushed during feeding.
Keep spools in their original packing in a dry, covered store until use, away from moisture and condensation. If a spool is left on the machine overnight or over a weekend, cover it or return it to a sealed bag. Moisture pickup can lead to porosity and poor feeding. Store spools off the floor and handle them carefully so the wire layers are not disturbed.
