Manual Metal Arc Welding, also know as Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Flux Shielded Arc Welding or informally as stick welding, is a manual arc welding process that uses a consumable electrode coted in flux to lay the weld. An electrode current, in the form of either AC or DC from a welding power supply, is used to from an electric arc between the electrode and the metal to be joined.

Because of versatility of process and simplicity of its equipments and operation, shielded metal arc welding is one of the worlds most popular welding processes. The process is used primarily to weld and steels (including stainless steel) but Aluminium, Nickel and Copper Alloys can also be welded with this method.

The ARC 630 I (Indian Make) is a heavy-duty three-phase stick (MMA) welding machine with a 40-630 A output range. It is aimed at heavy fabrication, thick plate and structural work where large diameter electrodes and high current are needed, in fabrication shops, workshops and industrial sites.
The ARC 630 I accepts electrodes from 1.6 mm up to 6.3 mm diameter. That lets one machine cover small electrodes for light work and large 5 mm and 6.3 mm electrodes for heavy joints and fast filling. Set the current within the range given on the electrode packet for best results.
The ARC 630 I is listed with a 60% duty cycle. At its rated output it can weld for about 6 minutes in every 10 and then needs about 4 minutes to cool. When you weld at lower current it can run for longer periods, which suits long fabrication shifts with normal breaks for electrode changes.
The ARC 630 I runs on a three-phase 415 V AC supply (plus or minus 15%) at 50/60 Hz. A 630 A machine draws a large input load, so please confirm the exact input rating with our team and have an electrician check your breaker, input cable size and earthing before installation.
The ARC 400 gives 40-400 A and takes electrodes up to 5.0 mm. The ARC 630 I goes up to 630 A and takes electrodes up to 6.3 mm, so it suits thicker material and heavier welding. Both list an adjustable force range of 0-100 A. Choose the ARC 630 I only if your work needs the extra current.
The ARC 630 I weighs 54 kg and measures 670 x 320 x 640 mm, so move it with two people or a trolley. It has Class F insulation and an IP21 housing, so keep it indoors or under cover with space around the vents. Disconnect power before cleaning out dust, and check cables and the earth clamp regularly.
