The nozzle, electrode and swirl ring are the main consumables that wear during cutting, while the retaining cap, shield and torch body hold and protect them.
The swirl ring sits between the electrode and the nozzle. It spins the compressed air as it enters the nozzle, which helps keep the arc centred and stable, and it keeps the electrode and nozzle correctly spaced. A cracked, burnt or blocked swirl ring causes poor cuts and fast consumable wear, so check it each time you change the electrode.
As a general rule, a smaller orifice suits lower currents and thinner plate, and a larger orifice suits higher currents and thicker plate. Among the BW130 sizes, 1.5 mm is for the lower end, 1.8 mm for the middle and 2.1 mm for higher currents. Using a nozzle too small for the current set wears it out quickly.
The torch body 130P is the main part of the torch that the consumables fit into and that connects to the torch cable. The retaining cap screws onto the front and holds the nozzle, swirl ring and electrode in position. A loose or damaged retaining cap can cause air leaks and arcing, so tighten it by hand and replace it if damaged.
Use clean, dry compressed air at the pressure recommended for your machine, and drain moisture from the line daily. Set the current to suit the nozzle size, keep a steady torch height, and avoid piercing thick plate with the torch touching the surface. Replace the electrode and nozzle together, and check the swirl ring at the same time.
