The Commercial MZ 1000 is a three-phase submerged arc welding power source with a 100-1000 A output. It is used for long straight and circular seams on medium and thick steel plate, for example in beams, columns, tanks, pipes and general heavy fabrication, where steady, high-deposition welding is needed.
According to the product description on this page, the power source can be used for submerged arc welding, MMA (stick) welding and air carbon arc gouging. This lets a workshop use the same machine for SAW seams, manual repairs and back gouging of joints before the second side is welded.
The Commercial MZ 1000 is listed at a 100% duty cycle over a 10-minute period. It is rated to weld continuously at its rated output without stopping to cool. This is important for submerged arc welding, where one seam can run for many minutes without a break.
The Commercial MZ 1000 needs a three-phase 415 V AC supply (plus or minus 15%) at 50/60 Hz. It is rated at 63.95 kVA input power with a rated input current of 84 A. Plan a dedicated supply with a correctly rated breaker, input cable and earth, checked by a qualified electrician.
The Commercial MZ 1000 is listed for 3.15 mm to 6.30 mm wire (electrode) diameter, with an open circuit voltage of 72 V and a 70 mm2 output cable. Choose the wire size according to the plate thickness and deposition rate you need, and keep cable connections tight to avoid heating.
Besides the power source, submerged arc welding normally needs a welding tractor or column and boom with a wire feed head, a spool of SAW wire, granular flux and suitable job handling such as rotators for round work.
